About Me
I came to Pilates following my career as a dance artist and arts administrator. It has been a natural transition to take my love of movement and the details of the human body and relay those to my clients through Pilates.
I am a fully certified STOTT PILATES instructor having completed my training at Full Circle Studio in Vancouver, and I have been teaching for the past 7 years. I have also completed training in Pain Reprocessing Therapy which provides tools for dealing with chronic pain based on the latest neuroscience research. My goal as an instructor is to help others connect to their bodies and find more range and ease of motion to take into daily life.
I earned my BFA in Dance from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2005, followed by my MFA in Choreography from York University in 2013. My graduate degree research focused on using contemporary choreography as a tool for social change. I am a Co-Founder of Project: Humanity – an arts/theatre organization that uses the arts to raise social awareness with a strong emphasis on community service. I ran the company with my partners for eight years in Toronto before stepping back when I moved to Vancouver.
I have over 15 years of teaching experience in a variety of forms and environments. I have taught dance in studios and schools; theatre and improvisation in the youth shelter system; group fitness in gyms and community centres; and leadership and creativity in business settings.
I returned from Toronto to Vancouver where I grew up, and I live in East Van with my husband and two young sons.
What You Can Expect
A session with me will be focused around your goals, as well as an evaluation of how your body feels on a given day. Depending on our focus, I will develop an exercise plan that is individualized and specific to you. I aim to keep my clients engaged and for our sessions to feel relevant. I typically blend traditional Pilates exercises with more physio-focused modifications of exercises, all supporting the goal of more functional movement in the body.
The Pilates principles of Breathing, Concentration, Centering, Control, Precision and Flow can be found throughout my approach.
I remain aware of nervous system regulation as we work together and I work through a trauma-informed lens.
For those clients experiencing chronic pain, we have the option to utilize the tools of Pain Reprocessing Coaching as part of our sessions.
More information about that methodology can be found here.
